Arcola, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The following information is being released from Illinois State Police District 10:
WHAT:
- Two Vehicle Traffic Crash/Vehicle Fire
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 southbound at mile marker 197 (5 miles south of Arcola)
WHEN:
- Sept. 22, 2021 at approximately 6:30 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1 – 2014 Kenworth truck tractor/semi-trailer
- Unit 2 – 2016 Fiat 124
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1 – Edriss Murad Abdella, M, 42, Lawrenceville, GA
- Unit 2 – Donna K. Dowler, F, 45, Tuscola, IL (Transported to local hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries)
PRELIMINARY:
- Preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1 and 2 were traveling southbound on interstate 57. In the vicinity of mile marker 197 Unit 1 crossed into the right ditch, attempted to return to the interstate and overcorrected. Unit 1 rolled onto the passenger side and came to rest across the southbound lanes. Unit 2 stuck Unit 1 and immediately caught fire. Due to traffic backup, responding fire units stopped in the northbound lanes to address the fire. Southbound traffic was diverted off the interstate at Exit 203, northbound traffic was diverted off the interstate at Exit 192. Northbound traffic reopened at approximately 7:30 a.m. Southbound traffic opened at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Charges:
- Unit 1 driver was issued a citation for: Improper Lane Use
The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
