WHAT:
- Three Unit Personal Injury Traffic Crash
WHERE:
- Interstate 57 northbound at Milepost 179 (2 miles north of Neoga)
WHEN:
- Sept. 22, 2021, at approximately 7:45 a.m.
VEHICLES:
- Unit 1 – 2013 Silver Toyota Venza
- Unit 2 – 2019 Gray Nissan Versa
- Unit 3 – 2021 Red Kenworth truck tractor/Silver tanker trailer
DRIVERS:
- Unit 1 – Jeffrey B. Diestelhorst, male, 60, Neoga, IL
- Unit 2 – Denise P. Kelley, female, 31, Mattoon, IL
- Unit 3 – Ashley K. Gholson, female, 48, Mattoon, IL
PRELIMINARY:
Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred:
- Units 1 and 2 were traveling northbound on I-57 in Cumberland County. At approximately milepost 179, Unit 1 struck the rear of Unit 2.
- Unit 1 left the roadway to the left, crossed the median, and struck the rear of a trailer being pulled by Unit 3.
- Units 1 and 3 came to rest in the southbound lanes.
- Unit 2 came to rest on the northbound right shoulder.
Charges:
- Diestelhorst received citations for the following: Too fast for conditions, Operating an uninsured motor vehicle, Failure to wear seatbelt, Improper lane usage
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
