Marshall, IL -(Effingham Radio)-Did you know Marshall Area Public Library District has installed five little libraries available to patrons to use for free? These pint size libraries look very similar to an oversized bird house and offer area residents an opportunity to get books when traveling to the library may not be feasible. They contain a variety of books for different interests and ages that anyone may borrow. There is no need to “check out” books from the little libraries because they are all donated books or materials that have been deleted from Marshall Public Library’s collection. The hope is that a person might find an interesting book, take it home to read it, and then return it for someone else to enjoy. A person might also put one of their own books in the little library they no longer want to keep.
The Little Library Outposts are located at Mill Creek Park near the restrooms, at Lincoln Trail State Park near the restrooms, in Clark Center not far from Yargus Manufacturing (on the property at the corner of East Main and York Streets), and at the intersection of Dennison where there is a small driveway that pulls right up to the little library on the Northeast side of the property of Kevin and Amie Kennedy. New this year is a little library located near the City of Marshall Pool just inside the entrance of the Robert Washburn Park.
The very first Little Library Outpost was constructed by local Ray Cown, the subsequent three by Trevor Kellum as an Eagle Scout project and the fifth by Jeff Burress. The little libraries are currently being maintained by local Boy Scout Troop 276. In the event you are not able to utilize this service or visit the library, home delivery is available for patrons as needed. For more information, please contact the library at 217-826-2535 or email marshallpubliclibrary@gmail.com.
The newest Little Library Outpost is located near the Marshall Pool just inside the Robert Washburn Park.
