Washington, DC -(Effingham Radio)- The Navy is upholding the firing of the captain who sounded warnings about the coronavirus. Captain Brett Crozier was relieved of command of the USS Theodore Roosevelt after raising alarms about an outbreak aboard the aircraft carrier in March. His complaints were leaked to media outlets. Opening a Pentagon briefing, Navy Secretary Kenneth Brathwaite said he is satisfied that the facts were followed properly during a lengthy investigation.
Chief of Naval Operations Michael Gilday said Crozier fell well short of what is expected of one who commands a Navy vessel. Admiral Gilday said Crozier put crew comfort ahead of crew safety. He noted that he previously recommended Crozier’s reinstatement but changed his mind after a further review of the investigation. He stressed that Crozier will be reassigned but will not be eligible to command another Navy vessel. Gilday also said he’s is confident that Crozier did not leak his complaints to the media.
