Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Wondering if you missed the notice for your township board’s annual town meeting this month?
Don’t worry about it.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has postponed those legally-mandated public meetings for the duration of the Illinois stay-at-home order, the Township Officials of Illinois organization announced this month. Township annual meetings were scheduled for April 14 or 21 across Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker released an executive order suspending those meetings due to COVID-19 concerns on social distancing requirements and other health risks relating to the deadly virus.
These meetings offer an opportunity for township residents to speak out on different issues before the township board and for township officials to review township finances and needs. It is about as near to the political tradition of grassroots democracy offered.
When the COVID-19 risk diminishes, the townships will post notices on their annual meetings.
