Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The following has been released by the Mattoon Police Department:
“On Friday August 9th at approx. 11:55 p.m. Mattoon police were dispatched to the 800 block of Oklahoma Avenue in regards to a reported Homicide.
Upon arrival Officers discovered that a male and female within a residence had both been shot.
Both individuals passed away.
The incident is being investigated as a murder / suicide.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
There is no danger to the public at large.
Autopsies will likely be scheduled for Monday the 12th.
