EFFINGHAM, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham Public Library has announced new programming for the new year, including the addition of new weekly programs geared toward preschoolers.
New programs offered at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library will include an active story time, an encore story time, passive playgroups and Saturday sessions.
“We have seen tremendous growth in our children’s department, and we have identified a need for additional programs for preschool-aged children,” said Programming Outreach Manager Catherine Bailey.
In past months, the library has held a weekly story time on Tuesdays and passive preschool programs on Fridays. However, beginning in January, the library will introduce a new programming schedule.
The new schedule includes two Story Times each week, with the first being held at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and the Encore Story Time held at 10 a.m. on Fridays. Both sessions will include the same theme, books, songs and crafts. Story Times are open to children birth to 5 years, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Active Story Time also has been added to the schedule on the third Thursday of each month. During Active Story Time, Kay Metzelaars will read stories where children will become an active part of the story. Sessions will be at 10 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. Active Story Time is for children ages 2 to 5 years, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
“Our Story Time has always been very popular, so adding a second session each week will allow for more children to participate in the program. Also, the new Active Story Time will give a chance for children to get up and move, while being read to,” said Bailey.
Programming on Thursdays in the Children’s Area also will see a change, with the library’s passive preschool programs being held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays. The passive programs are for children ages 2 to 5 years, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Thursday programs will rotate weekly, with the first week featuring Toddler Playgroup, the second Lego Club Jr., the third Active Story Time, and the fourth Totally Untidy Tots.
Other additions to children’s programming will include Saturday sessions, where children can walk in between 9 a.m. and noon and participate in an activity while supplies last.
Saturday activities will rotate with the first Saturday featuring Lego Club, the second featuring STEM projects, the third featuring Lego Jr., and the fourth featuring a craft.
No registration is required for any of these programs.
