Murphysboro, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Lawyers for a man in limbo in a southern Illinois murder case want the special prosecutor dismissed.
Gaege Bethune’s lawyers last week asked a judge to dismiss the special prosecutor, and end the investigation into Bethune and the 2014 death of SIU student Pravin Varughese.
A jury convicted Bethune of murder back in June, but the judge later set the verdict aside because of questions about evidence.
Bethune’s lawyers says there is no evidence of a crime, so there should no longer be a criminal investigation.
