The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Jasper County, Northern Richland County, Northeastern Clay County and Southeastern Effingham County until 315 PM CDT. At 236 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Bible Grove, or 11 miles southwest of Newton, moving east at 25 mph. Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. Impacts include expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include Olney, Newton, Dieterich, Bible Grove, Ste. Marie, Willow Hill, Claremont, Wheeler, Bogota, Dundas, Ingraham, West Liberty, Hunt City, Yale, Rose Hill, Wakefield, Wendelin, Newton Lake, Sam Parr State Park and Elliotstown. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
