EFFINGHAM COUNTY, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham County is now a “Sanctuary County” for gun owners, after the County Board passed a symbolic resolution on Monday.
According to the Effingham Daily News, the Board passed the resolution on Monday with a 8-1 vote.
The only no vote came from Board Member, Karen Luchtefeld, who told EDN that she objected “on several levels”.
EDN stated, “For one, she thought it was inappropriate for her to make such a decision for the people who voted for her. Instead, the people should contact their state and federal legislators directly, she said. She said she supports “common sense” gun control reforms. She highlighted the destructive distinction between a musket capable of firing three times in a minute, against a 30-round magazine on a modern rifle.”
This County Board meeting was one that was well-attended for this term.
It was reported that roughly 70 people were in attendance.
Additionally, five people spoke to the Board in regards to the resolution, three of those in opposition.
This resolution opposes a number of Bills that are currently active in the Illinois General Assembly, like one vetoed by the Governor that would require gun shops to have additional registration.
