The Illinois State Police District 12 will conduct Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols during the month of October.
These patrols are set to be held in Clay, Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, and Richland Counties. They will allow officers to check for drivers that are violating seat belt and child seat restraint laws. Illinois law requires that all individuals in a vehicle be buckled up.
Seat belts are one of the most effective devices for safety in vehicles. They save nearly 14,000 lives per year, while nearly half of every fatality from a vehicular accident is the result of not wearing a seat belt. The Illinois State Police is reminding all motorists to “Click It or Ticket”.
