The Mattoon Police arrested one person involved in a home invasion that resulted in the occupant, and their dog, being wounded by gunfire.
21-tear-old Audrey L. Ross, of Springfield, was arrested Tuesday by the Mattoon Police with assistance from the U.S. Marshall’s Service in Springfield. Charges allege that Ross, and accomplice, 22-year-old Willie A. Simpson, also of Springfield, broke into a residence in the 1000 block of North 12th Street in Mattoon Sunday night and robbed the occupant. During the confrontation, the occupant of the residence was allegedly struck with a firearm and shot. The assailants allegedly shot the resident’s dog as well.
Both the resident and their dog are recovering from their wounds.
Ross was taken to the Sangamon County jail with bond set at $250,000. She is charged with Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
The Coles County State’s Attorney has issued a warrant of arrest for Simpson, who is still at large, on charges of Home Invasion, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Battery with a firearm.
