According to a press release, the Illinois State Police have recognized National Safety Telecommunicators Week. The recognition is to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices of Telecommunicators, Call-Talkers, and Technicians.
According to State Police, Telecommunications personnel are essential to public safety. They ensure the safety of the public, as well as emergency personnel, by acting as a communications lifeline. Additionally, Technicians play an important role in maintaining that lifeline. Together Telecommunicators and Technicians help keep Illinois Residents safe.
According to Leo P. Schmitz, ISP Director, Telecommunicators “work around the clock, holiday, birthdays, and often miss family functions and school activites to ensure that emergency assistance is provided when requested. They hold one of the least visible, yet most stressful jobs in public safety.”
