Brent Beals Strikes Out 11 in Win Over Newton

The Effingham Flaming Hearts picked up the win Monday, beating Newton 9-3. Brent Beals was the winning pitcher for the Hearts, as he gave up two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Beals struck out 11 Eagles batters in the game. The Hearts offense was strong as well, scoring in all seven innings. Beals contributed with his bat Monday too, going 3-5 at the plate and scoring two runs. Lane Koenig knocked in three runs for the Hearts. Effingham is now 2-0, while Newton fell to 1-1.
