Cumberland was able to defeat Villa Grove/Heritage 41-20 to win their second straight LOVC Southeast Conference Championship. Cumberland went up 21-0 early and led 28-14 at the half. That is when the drama started. Villa Grove scored with 8:09 left in the third to make it 28-20. On the Pirates next possession Gabe Hatfill found Connor Butler for what should have been a touchdown however a block in the back instead made it first and 26. Hatfill was then picked off by Villa Grove who ran it back for what would have been a game tying touchdown however Villa Grove was called for a hold so Cumberland kept possession. Hatfill then found Zach Wolke on a fourth and eight to keep the drive going. Cumberland was then faced with another fourth down and Hatfill was able to find Tyson Magee for a 6 yard touchdown. Cumberland would put the game away with a Hatfill to Butler 30 yard touchdown with 4:45 left in the game. Cumberland will face 7-1 Argenta-Oreana next week.
