Two people were injured in an accident that occurred eight miles south of Effingham on I-57 northbound at 5:23pm on Wednesday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, Elizabeth L. Stonum, of Champaign and an eleven year old male juvenile, of Urbana were traveling northbound on I-57 in the left-hand lane. According to the State Police, Stonum stated that an unknown semi tractor-trailer attempted to merge left from the right lane, forcing Stonum off of the roadway. Stonum then overcorrected and skidded across both lanes of northbound traffic into the right ditch. The vehicle rolled multiple times, coming to a rest in a corn field. Both Stonum and the juvenile were taken to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.
