The Illinois State Police District 12 will conduct Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (sTEP) in May as part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign. These patrols are set to be held in Marion, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, and Clay Counties. They will allow officers to check for the “Fatal Four” violations.
- Driving under the influence
- Safety belt and child restraint usage
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
These patrols will be held to keep roads safe by removing the “Fatal Four” from area roadways. Driving while impaired from alcohol/drugs is a major factor in more than 30% of the fatal accidents in Illinois, while speeding accounts for nearly 35% and failing to be buckled up or having children restrained accounts for 50%. The Illinois State Police District 12 is reminding drivers to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and to “Click It or Ticket”.
