(Springfield, IL) — Illinois’ finances are a mess but the state’s prisons are improving by leaps and bounds. Governor Rauner yesterday said the state is moving towards its goal to reduce its prison population by 25-percent and better treat the people who’ll remain behind bars. Even AFSCME, the union that represents prison guards, says the governor’s steps to improve mental health treatment are working. Rauner says there’s still more work to be done.
