Cumberland did something over the weekend that it hasn’t done in 8 years, win its own Thanksgiving Tournament, but it wasn’t easy. Cumberland defeated Charleston on a last second shot by Tyson Magee to win 68-66. Charleston had the lead late but a three point shot gave Cumberland the lead. Charleston then made a free throw to tie the game at 66. Brody Donsbach got fouled and would shoot two free throws with just 5.6 seconds left. Brody missed the first free throw. Cumberland then sent Magee and Mike Wolke in to rebound the possible miss. Donsbach missed the second free throw but Magee got the rebound and put the shot up as the buzzer sounded to win the game for Cumberland. (Listen to the final play below)
Magee led the Pirates with 37 points and was named MVP of the Tournament. Zach Wolke, who scored 9 points, was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Charleston was led by Taylor-Lutz who scored 20 points. Cumberland will now take their 4-0 record on the road against Marshall Tuesday.
