Two points was all Effingham needed but the Hearts couldn’t convert on the two point conversion and fell to Taylorville 28-19.
Taylorville got on the board with 11:16 left in the first quarter on a Stokes 71 yard touchdown to make it 7-0. Effingham came back and were able score on a 4 yard run by Hill to make it 7-6 with 7:55 left in the first quarter. Taylorville however would put up one more score with 5:20 left in the first quarter on a Stokes 3 yard touchdown to make it 14-6. Neither team would score in the second quarter making it 14-6 at the half.
Taylorville got on the board in the third with a 36 yard run from Champley to make it 21-6 with 5:44 left in the third quarter. Effingham would come back with 3:51 left in the third and scored on a Hill 25 yard run to make it 21-13. Effingham would then score on a 2 yard touchdown by Hill with 45.1 seconds left to make it 21-19. Effingham would line up in a Wildcat formation with Hill in at quarterback. Hill faked it and took it up the middle but Taylorville was able to stop Hill from tying the game up. Taylorville would then recover an onside kick and score with just 33.9 seconds left in the game on a Stokes 46 yard touchdown.
Effingham falls to 3-3 and 2-1 in the Apollo. The Hearts head up to Mattoon Friday, facing a Green Wave team with the same record in a huge contest for both sides.
