The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help identify a suspect after a shooting incident that occurred on Friday. At 11:30, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a man firing a handgun while sitting in his truck on Illinois Route 40 near the intersection of Funkhouser Road. The weapon was not fired at anyone.
According to a press release “The suspect’s vehicle is described as a well-kept late 90s to early 2000s extended cab pickup truck, probably a Chevrolet. The truck is silver or gray, has a chrome or shiny ‘deck plate’ tool box across the bed directly behind the cab. The truck also has a chrome or shiny brush guard mounted on the front.”
The suspect was described “as being 50 to 60 years old with silver or gray hair and clean-shaven. He has a stocky build and his height is estimated to be 5’ 8” to 5’ 9”. The driver extended his left hand out of the driver’s side window and fired a single shot into the air from a short-barreled, shiny handgun, probably a revolver.”
If you witnessed the event or have information, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 217-342-2101. If you see the truck, do not attempt to confront the driver or follow them. If it is safe, record the license plate number and report it the Sheriff’s Office.
