John Lackey’s winless streak was stretched to 5 games as the Reds beat the Cubs 9-5.
The Reds got on the board in the first as Hamilton scored on a passed ball. The Reds added another run in the top of the first with a Phillips RBI single to make it 2-0. Cozart added a two run home run in the second to make it 4-0 Reds. Cubs Manager Joe Maddon was ejected in the second inning for arguing over balls and strikes. The Reds scored another run in the third on a Cabrera RBI double to take a 5-0 lead. The Cubs came back in the bottom of the third with solo home runs by Báez and Bryant. Russell added a two run home run in the third to make it 5-4. Votto hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth making it 6-4 Reds. The Cubs scored in the fifth with Russell’s second home run of the game making it 6-5. In the seventh Votto had an RBI double to make it 7-5. Bruce added a two run home run in the top of the ninth to make it 9-5.
Finnegan got the win moving to 4-7 on the season. Finnegan gave up 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking 4 over 5 innings. Lackey took the loss to fall to 7-5 on the year. Lackey gave up 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 and walking 5 over 6 innings.
The Cubs wrap up their series with the Reds today at 1:20.
