One woman was injured in a four vehicle crash on Thursday morning on I-70 near milepost 127 when a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Johnny A. Berlin, of Effingham, failed to yield for slowed traffic in a construction zone.
Three vehicles driven by 45-year-old Ian A. Devers, of Shawnee, KS; 50-year-old Deborah L. Highley, of Edwardsville, IL; and 81-year-old Henry D. Donnell, of Columbia, MO, slowed when they entered a construction zone. Donnell’s vehicle was struck in the back by Berlin’s causing a collision than pushed Donnell’s vehicle into Highley’s, and Highley’s into Devers.’ All four vehicles were damaged in the collision.
81-year-old Martha L. Donnell, also of Columbia, MO, was riding in the passenger seat of Henry D. Donnell’s vehicle and was injured in the crash. She was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham for treatment. There were no other injuries.
Both other vehicles were carrying passengers. Highley was driving 78-year-old Lawrence G. Cralley and 77-year-old Doris J. Cralley, both of Glen Carbon, IL. Devers’ had three juveniles in his vehicle.
Berlin is charged with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
