Effingham Senior Legion Post 120 split a doubleheader against Newton Post 20.
Game 1
Effingham Legion’s offense was in full effect as they beat Newton Post 20 7-3 in game one.
Newton scored first getting three runs in the top of the first. Effingham came back and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2 Newton. Effingham added 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth and a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3.
Lane Koenig got the win. Koenig gave up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 9 and walking 2 over a complete game 7 innings. John Grunloh took the loss. Grunloh gave up 6 runs, only 1 earned, on 8 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3 over 5 innings.
Game 2
Newton scored a run in the top of the seventh to seal game 2 winning 6-4.
Newton scored first getting a run in the top of the first. Effingham came back and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1 Effingham. Newton came back with 2 runs in the top of the second to take the lead back at 3-2. Newton scored 2 runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-2. Effingham scored 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth but Newton added another run in the seventh to make it 6-4.
Cole Horner got the win. Horner gave up 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 4 over 4 and 2/3 innings. Bryar Jansen took the loss. Jansen gave up 5 runs over 8 hits while striking out 3 and walking 4 over 4 and 1/3 innings.
Effingham’s record is now 11-5 on the season. Effingham’s next game is Wednesday at Robinson.
