A ninth inning RBI by rookie Albert Almora Jr gave the Cubs the 4-3 win against the Nationals.
The Cubs got on the board first with a Heyward 2 run single in the top of the third to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead. Washington came back with a Werth sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1. David Ross had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1. Washington came back with 2 sacrifice flies, one by Revere in the seventh and one by Rendon in the eighth, to tie the game at 3. Almora then hit a pinch hit RBI double to give the Cubs the 4-3 lead.
John Lackey gave up 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2 over 6 innings. Rondón got the win. Washington starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez gave up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 9 and walking 4 over 6 and 1/3 innings. Solis took the loss.
