The Effingham County Bar Association handed-out its annual “Distinguished Service Award” on Thursday at the annual Elks Law Day Law Luncheon in Effingham.
The legal group presented the award posthumously to the late Jan Westendorf, who served as a legal secretary and para-legal in Effingham for 39-years.
The presenter at the ceremony was Westendorf’s boss and friend, local attorney Twila Orr.
Orr paid special tribute to her late secretary and to all who work behind-the-scenes to get things done.
The family of the late Jan Westendorf received the award.
The keynote speaker at during the Law Day Luncheon was local surgeon, Dr. Nash Naam.
Naam is a native of egypt, who is now an american physician and historian. Dr. Naam spoke of thankfulness for the privilege of U.S. citizenship. His presentation also included an illustration of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Miranda Versus Arizona (“miranda rights”) decision. The case is being saluted this spring by the American Bar Association on its 50th anniversary.
