Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a 17-mile resurfacing project on U.S. 40 is underway. The $12.9 million dollar project extends from Illinois 49 in Casey to Illinois 1 in Marshall.
Lane closures are expected. Flaggers will be used to direct traffic through the work zones. Benefits from this project include a smoother driving surface. It is estimated that the project will be completed by the end of November.
Motorists can expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the area if possible.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
