Leonard “Lennie” Bushur, 87, of Effingham, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, concluding with a family led rosary.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools.
Leonard was born on June 12, 1938, in Douglas Township, Effingham County, IL, the son of John and Rosa (Verdeyen) Bushur. He married Rosemary “Rosie” Katherine Lohman on November 12, 1960 in Effingham, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2021.
Lennie was a hard-working lifelong dairy farmer, also working at the Effingham ASCS office. He was the proud owner of a +1,500-piece cookie jar collection. He loved his 5300 John Deere especially for ditching. He was a Cardinals fan. He loved watching his grandkids in their sports and other activities. Lennie was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He loved saying the Rosary and sharing the miraculous medal.
Lennie is survived by his children Tim (Kelly) Bushur of Chesterfield, Missouri, Jackie (Larry) Schmidt of Bloomington, Sandy (Keith) Deters of Sigel, Dennis (Stephanie) Bushur of Westfield, Indiana, Amy (Tom) Baker of Noble, Susie Sullivan of Erie, Pennsylvania, Kevin (Sheri) Bushur of Effingham, and Rick (Karen) Bushur of Hoffman Estates, 26 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Bushur and Bertha Bushur and brother-in-law, John H. (Gerry) Lohman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie, siblings, Louise (Martin) Niebrugge, Hilma (Virgil) Goeckner, Don Bushur, and Harold Bushur and Rosie’s sister, Katie (Larry) Arnold.
