Dorothy M. Grunloh, 93, of Effingham passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026 surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Anthony Educational Trust or Effingham Catholic Charities.
Dorothy was born August 19, 1932 in Effingham, the daughter of Walter and Frances Jones. She attended St. Anthony Grade and High School. On February 11, 1950 she married Don Grunloh and he preceded her in death in 2009.
Dorothy and Don were co-owners of AKRA Builders where Dorothy worked in the office until they both retired. Dorothy enjoyed camping and traveled often with her family and friends. She was also a skilled rummy player, enjoyed visiting garage sales and frequently placed in the top three of a Monday night DWTS competition. Dorothy was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and any team when her children and grandchildren were playing. She attended many events and, later in life, looked forward to streaming their games and cheering from home.
Survivors include her six daughters, Nancy (Scott) Koester of Ripley, Oklahoma, Joyce (Dan) Worman, Kathy Haney, Sherry (Doug) Babbs and Jan (Ray) Nuxoll, all of Effingham, Ellen Brummer of Island Grove and son, Greg (Gina) of Aurora, grandchildren, Lisa Sadler, Jason Koester, Kris Ann Williamson, Jeff Worman, Jill Willis, Jackie Having, Amanda Griffith, Adam Haney, Tim Schuette II, Mike Schuette, Kelly Butts, Mark Schuette, Brad Nuxoll, Trent Nuxoll, Jared Nuxoll, Stevie Brummer, Charlie Brummer, DJ Grieco, Donovan Grunloh, Benjamin Grunloh and Grace Grunloh, 39 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Raymond Jones, granddaughter Jennifer Koester and son-in-law Clarence Haney.
