Barbara A. Boomgarden, 89, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Mason Union Cemetery in Mason, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Crossroads Cancer Center.
Barbara was born on October 3, 1936, in Mason, IL, the daughter of Wayne and Lucille (Norris) Parks. She married Leslie “Glenn” Boomgarden on February 1, 1953, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2017.
Barbara loved to craft, sew, quilt, read, and put puzzles together. She had a creative mind and enjoyed drawing, coloring, and painting. She loved spending time with her family and when they were together, she always had plenty of food on the table. She also enjoyed classic country music, and Friday nights at the Edgewood Opry. Barbara retired from the photo finishing industry after 35 years of service.
Barbara is survived by her children, Leslie (Pamela) Boomgarden, Dianne (Bill) Guth, Brenda (Kevin) Umphress, Michael (Donna) Boomgarden, and Katie Meier; grandchildren, Derek (Donna) Boomgarden, Billy (Clarissa) Guth, Shaun (Stephanie) Jensen, Jenny (Matt) LaForce, Chad (Lisa) Guth, Melanie (Eric) Ibsh, Jason (Nicole) Umphress, Richard (Allison) Boomgarden, Alyssa (Paul) Werfelmann, Sarah (fiancé, Cody) Boomgarden, Jacob Boomgarden, Nick (Aly) Meier, Dillon Meier, and Megan (fiancé, Greg) Meier; many great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lois “Toby” Hankins, Bev Mandel, Connie Wilhite, Doyle (Trela) Parks, and Robert Parks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; sister, Sandy (Merle) Crain; brother, Bill (Joann) Parks; brother-in-law, Louis Hankins; and nephews, Brian Mandel and Ronnie Crain.
