Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Windy conditions today paired with a chance for sown could make visibility difficult in spots, but little accumulation is expected.
The first in a series of disturbances that could bring light snow accumulations to central IL looks to arrive Thursday evening and depart the area Friday morning. There is a 30 to 50 percent chance of accumulations exceeding an inch in most areas north of I-70. Areas of slippery road conditions are likely, and could affect the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
Bitter cold starting this weekend, with wind chills likely to drop below zero at times from Saturday into early next week. This will cause a risk of hypothermia and frostbite with extended exposure. Limit time outdoors, wear multiple layers and cover all exposed skin, have an emergency supply kit with jumper cables, extra clothing, and blankets in your car, and bring pets indoors.
