Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham County Board met Monday and gave the green light to a three-year contract for circuit clerk employees, with raises of 3%, 3.5%, and 3.5% over each year and a $17 hourly wage for new hires. Board member Mike Buzzard voted against the deal, while Chris Keller was not present. Closed session talks addressed a potential contract for sheriff’s office staff, though no formal action was taken.
The board allocated $12,500 from hotel/motel taxes to Lake Sara Forever for a beach expansion, bringing fundraising halfway to its target and aiming for completion by April 15. Other actions included adopting the fiscal year employee handbook, confirming committee meeting schedules, and making appointments to the Island Grove Drainage District and Ambulance Oversight Committee. The board also approved audit reports, selected a bidder for motor fuel tax materials, and backed improvements for the County Government Center. Additional measures involved continuing membership with the Chamber of Commerce, granting $15,000 to Senior Services, amending salary schedules, canceling insurance on a retired vehicle, and preparing for the county tax sale, with unpaid bills facing auction Thursday as noted by Treasurer Deb Ruholl.
