
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- This could be the final week of benefits for close to two million Illinoisans, as SNAP benefits may be paused due to the ongoing government shutdown.
Food pantries are preparing for a rush of community members seeking assistance. The head of one Illinois food pantry says they’re spending more on food than ever before and are on pace to spend 273 thousand this year alone.
Over 20 states (including Illinois) have now sued the USDA over the upcoming suspension of SNAP benefits, citing the refusal to utilize emergency funds set aside by congress.
