Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Effingham Fire Department Facebook page:
With dry conditions continuing and no meaningful rain in the forecast till next week, the Effingham Fire Department is once again issuing a Burn Advisory. Translation: We’re not banning burning, but we strongly recommend you avoid it. If you absolutely must burn, please use common sense:
- Don’t leave it unattended
- Keep a hose or bucket of water handy
- Don’t burn on windy days
- Put it out completely (if it’s still smoking, it’s not out)
Normal Burn Rules (a.k.a. “The Fine Print”)
- Yard waste only — Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays, 8 AM–6 PM
- No garbage, construction materials, or “that old couch you hate”
- No burning in the street, on sidewalks, over manholes, or on utility covers (yes, we’ve seen it all)
- Fires must be completely out by 6 PM — no exceptions, no excuses
Reminder: It’s dry, hot, and fire spreads faster than rumors on the Insider. If conditions get worse (or if people can’t follow the rules), this advisory will become a full Burn Ban — and nobody wants that.
Stay smart, stay safe, and don’t make us roll the big red trucks for your leaf pile.
