
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The summer heat goes into overdrive today as a heat advisory takes effect.
Dangerous heat is in store through Thursday. Expect heat index values of 105 to 110 across central and southeast Illinois today and Thursday afternoon. Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.
High temperatures will take a slight break on Friday with scattered thunderstorms, then heat will ramp up again over the weekend. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are possible today and Thursday before thunderstorm activity becomes more widespread starting Thursday evening.
