
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met on Tuesday and approves a few different items.
City Council members have greenlit up to $600,000 from Hotel Operators Occupation Tax funds for infrastructure improvements at Thelma Keller Convention Center, aiming for completion within a year. Commissioner Jake Niebrugge voiced support but urged local businesses to maintain their properties without waiting for city intervention.
The evening’s agenda also included a liquor license for J&H Liquor, land sales for Wright at Home’s new location, approvals for modern sewage lift stations, and a declaration of a North Merchant Street property as unsafe. Public works updates highlighted sidewalk expansion, a street reconstruction bid date, and support for local economic and tourism efforts.
Commissioner Libby Moeller was absent from the meeting.
