Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Legislative Committee held their regular meeting Monday and discussed having solar panels and wind farms to be built in the county.
The committee heard from State’s Attorney Aaron Jones on what would be needed to move forward with the initiative, stating that a hearing/workshop would need to take place. A retired judge would need to be involved, as well as an attorney and engineer for the process. Applications would need to go up online, and a new committee would likely be formed specifically for the solar and wind projects. Jones also said there are a few typos on the info sheet that will need fixed, and he reminded the Committee that the County will need to set the policy for these projects.
Mike Buzzard brought up the fact that there would need to be a pathway for emergency personnel like firefighters to use in case of emergencies, and he said that weed and grass management would also need to be taken into account. The Committee will look more into the projects, specifically wanting more information on annual fees and comparisons with other counties who have moved forward with the green energy projects.
The Committee also discussed 2 different savings plans for county buildings, deciding between a 3 year plan and a 20 year (anchor) plan. The county will save more money in the long run with the 20 year plan, and the Committee voted to move on the 20-year plan. It was approved to be vote on by the full board at the next County Board meeting.
