Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Kia is recalling over 80-thousand of its Niro vehicles for issues with its seatbelts and airbags.
Federal safety regulators say adjusting the front passenger seat could cause serious safety risk by damaging the wiring which controls critical features including the airbag and seat belts. That could prevent airbags from deploying properly during a crash, deploying unexpectedly or not switching off for small passengers heightening the possibility of injury.
The recall includes Niro, Niro EV, and Niro Plug-in Hybrid vehicles made between August 10th, 2022 and December 13th, 2024 with a manual front passenger seat. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that as of January 10th no crashes, injuries, fatalities or fires have been reported.
