On December 23, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to report of a burglary at a property in Blair Township. The property owner advised that his 2015 Honda ATV had been recently stolen from a building.
On December 24, 2024, at approximately 12:39 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a UTV accident at Woods Ln and Broadway St in Louisville. Upon their arrival it was determined that the occupant(s) had left the scene. Upon further investigation it was determined that the UTV had been stolen from a property in Louisville Township just prior to the accident.
Later the same date, while deputies were investigating the thefts, they located the stolen 2015 Honda ATV stuck in a field in Louisville Township. Upon recovering the ATV the deputies were able to gather evidence and develop suspect(s) in these cases.
As a result of this investigation at approximately 1:00 p.m. deputies took Dakota J. Wilson, 21, of Flora, into custody and he was later charged with Burglary. At approximately 3:10 p.m. another individual was taken into custody during the investigation by deputies on a Livingston County Warrant. Deputies continued to pursue another person of interest in these investigations.

On December 26, 2024, at approximately 9:45 a.m. the sheriff’s office responded to Hoosier Township for a report of a motor vehicle theft that had just occurred. During the course of the initial investigation the Sheriff located the stolen vehicle traveling westbound on Hwy 50 at Greenbrier Ln. When the Sheriff attempted to catch up with the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled. The vehicle traveled west of Hwy 50 and into the City of Flora. The vehicle left the roadway at Vincennes Ave and South Mill at which point the driver fled on foot. The suspect fled for approximately two blocks at which point he was captured by the Sheriff and taken into custody.
As a result of the above investigations and this incident Ethan K. Cosner, 24 of Flora, was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Driving While License Revoked and other traffic offenses. Cosner is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Flora Police Department and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Tech Services. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
“We are concerned about these thefts occurring on our watch and we will continue to examine what changes we can try to make, to prevent similar thefts from occurring. However I’m extremely proud of our staff and the fact that they prioritized these cases even over their own family holiday commitments in order to get them solved and recover the victims’ property, states Sheriff Andy Myers.”
