Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Employee of the Quarter was named at the City Council Meeting Tuesday evening.
Jeff Lewis was recognized as the Employee of the Quarter for the City, and was presented with a certificate of recognition. City Administrator Steve Miller presented the award.
The City Council also discussed numerous items, including a proposed construction of am east-west road connecting Maple and 4th Street. Director of Public Works Jeremy Heuerman said the City needs to use remaining funds from a Tax Increment Financing district. The proposed street would start running east of the Workman Sports Complex and connect east to 4th Street.
The City will see an increase in revenue due to increases in the city’s equalized assessed valuation, but the tax rate will still go down regardless. Council members also rezoned properties from 804 to 810 West Edgar Avenue from single family residence district to neighborhood shopping district.
The City Council also heard from Tourism Director Jodi Thoele, who reminded Council members that the Walking Through Wonderland event is happening tonight from 5-8pm and encouraged them to come out and see the lights up close. She also mentioned that the Holiday Lights and Festive Sights Competition has opened for nominations, and the City of Effingham Christmas Card Competition deadline has been extended to Monday, November 27th.
