Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday evening.
The EJHS Track Team was recognized for their play in state tournaments last year.
The Effingham Board of Education also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Effingham City Police Department to continue the School Resource Officer Program, and add more officers in hopes of having an officer in each building in the district. Board member Steve Bone said, “There is no higher priority than the safety of our students. Money shouldn’t be an issue in my opinion.”
Superintendent Andy Johnson said he “wants to have this in place before something happens.” The agreement would be for one year and then they will re-assess.
The Board also approved a contract with ENTEC for energy system upgrades. The cost was just over $200K, but Superintendent Johnson said the price is only going to go up with every passing year, so he believed this was the right move at this time.
The Board also amended the process for hiring the next athletic director to succeed David Woltman. The original thought was to have the incoming AD learn for a year with Woltman before he retires, but instead an assistant to the AD will be hired. The start date for the new AD will be July 1, 2024.
The Board then discussed the solar eclipse coming up in April next year. The discussion centered around whether to have kids in school, use an E-Learning Day, or take the day off entirely. The Board said they will likely discuss this again as the date gets closer.
