Charleston, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Charleston Police Department Facebook Page:
On May 5, 2023, members of the Charleston Police Department were dispatched to 501 Madison Ave (Hucks) for an attempted vehicle hijacking. When officers arrived on scene they observed a hostile and violent suspect had been apprehended by Timothy Preston. Preston was pumping gas in his vehicle when he heard a subject screaming for help at an adjacent gas pump. Without hesitation, Preston assisted the victim when he heard the suspect was attempting to steal a vehicle.
During the incident, the suspect got out of the vehicle and began running away. Preston could have easily allowed the suspect to flee and no longer involve himself in the incident. Preston instead chose to chase the suspect down and subdue him until police could arrive on scene. Officers later determined the suspect had attempted to steal another vehicle prior to the incident at Huck’s.
Without Preston’s assistance, the suspect could have eluded police and committed additional acts of violence within the city. Due to his bravery and willingness to help when most wouldn’t. I am recognizing Preston by presenting him with this award.
