
Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Illinois experienced a 22.7% surge in traffic-related deaths during the first three months of 2022 compared to the same period last year. There were an estimated 276 traffic deaths that took place during the first quarter in Illinois.
The state police identified 4 contributing factors to the increase.
That was Deputy Chief Public Information Officer Sergeant Christopher Watson, who reminds listeners to use all the safety systems with which their vehicle is equipped to help prevent serious injuries. One of the top safety features? The seatbelts.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 9,560 people died in car accidents across the nation.
