Effingham, IL -(Effingham Radio)- A new public health report says rodent populations are starting to branch out in some areas because restaurant dumpsters are empty. The public health risk is part of a statement reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It says the effect of the coronavirus shutdown of restaurants on rodent populations is leading the rats to venture into neighborhoods to seek out food elsewhere. The report recommends making sure all entrances to residences and commercial buildings are sealed and garbage is disposed of properly to keep rodents away and from spreading disease to humans.
