Effingham finishes up their 3 game road trip traveling to Mahomet to face Mahomet-Seymour this Friday night. This is just a 174 mile round trip and that doesn’t seem so bad after the trip to Macomb last week.
Effingham comes in riding high on a 3 game winning streak after losing the first two games of the season to Mater Dei and Taylorville. The Hearts have won three straight against Mt.Zion, Lincoln, and last week’s 54-19 victory over Macomb. The Bulldogs have not fared as well, but don’t overlook the 1-4 record they sport this season.
Mahomet Seymour lost the first game of the season 52-7 against Washington (who are still undefeated 5-0 on the season) Then won against Charleston (0-5) 49-20. Then have gone on to lose the last three games to some solid completion; 21-20 to Mascoutah (4-1), Taylorville (5-0) 38-26, and last week’s 31-28 loss to Mattoon (4-1). In the game against the Green Wave Mattoon had to comeback for that victory as Mahomet Seymour led early in the 4th quarter.
Some players who Effingham has to look out for are senior QB Dawson Finch and senior RB Jordan Veldman. There are two motivational factors for Mahomet, it is the Bulldogs homecoming as the Hearts look to spoil another homecoming for the third consecutive week. Mahomet-Seymour stands with 4 losses and are playing for their postseason lives. They would have to win out from this point on just to get to the minimum required 5 wins and with Mt. Zion looming next week for the Bulldogs this is a must win game.
As always you can listen to the game on 100.5 and 105.5 Jack FM or the Effingham Radio App
