Effingham, Ill. – Yesterday Afternoon at Evergreen Park the Effingham Park District, Representatives for Harmony Playground, and Mayor Jeff Bloemker were all in attendance for the ground breaking of the new Harmony Playground in Effingham.
The playground itself is an inclusive, and ADA accessible playground that once constructed will allow for any child with a disability, illness, or barrier in their life to still have the opportunity to play.
According to the Effingham Park District, “In 2010, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was updated to include playgrounds.”
“Now, any newly constructed or renovated public playground must be accessible to those with disabilities, to provide all children the same outdoor play opportunities.”
Harmony Playground project volunteer, Jami Ludwig shared remarks following the ground breaking listen in below:
The playground will feature an accessible pavilion, and is now under construction.
Construction should be completed later this year.
