Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)-Â Effingham City Council members tackled a full agenda as they reviewed the tentative budget for the fiscal year starting May 1.
Resident Mark Mayhood renewed his concerns about cost savings through local vehicle purchases, but City Administrator Steve Miller responded that previous local deals led to late or incorrect deliveries. The Council postponed liquor license decisions for Upper Deck Bar and Grill and instead approved acquiring small parcels and easements for improvement projects. A proposed zoning amendment allowing vacation and short-term rentals ended in a 2-2 tie and will be reconsidered due to one commissioner’s absence.
Members approved agreements to support redevelopment at Bike N Hike and West Eiche Avenue, as well as a $97,000 EV charging station downtown and citywide generator maintenance. Topics discussed but not voted on included 4% pay raises for non-union employees, phased water rate increases, and initial steps for an 18-unit Heritage Avenue housing development.
