
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On April 9th, 2026, investigators from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Effingham Police Department executed a search warrant at 810 South Fourth Street in Effingham, Illinois.
The search warrant was the result of a joint narcotics investigation conducted by the Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Execution of the warrant resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, Fentanyl, and a stolen firearm. Additionally, investigators located evidence consistent with the use and distribution of narcotics.
Derrick Alan Morrell, 41, of Effingham, was taken into custody for the following offenses without incident:
- Possession of Methamphetamine (5 > 15 grams)
- Methamphetamine Delivery (5 > 15 grams)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl)
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
The Effingham Police Department and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Morrell remains in custody at the Effingham County Jail awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing and formal charging.
All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
