Washington, DC-(Effingham Radio)- President Trump is resuming his push to eliminate a program that provides home energy assistance to low-income families.
According to the president’s newly released budget, the Trump administration is proposing to end the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program “for the sixth time.” The budget describes LIHEAP as “unnecessary,” and suggested that President Trump’s agenda should do enough to lower energy prices and make up the difference. Despite the president’s repeated request, Congress is unlikely to enact the cut since the program has significant bipartisan support.
