
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)-Effingham’s City Council has finalized its 2050 Comprehensive Plan after more than a year of planning, setting a new course for local development and benchmarks for future progress. City officials highlighted the development of 154 acres along South Route 45, approving a $1.25 million commitment toward a regional grant that could bring in $5 million for a new electric substation and lines.
Several subdivision replats and new liquor licenses were authorized, including for two hotels and a new bar at Fayette and 4th. Council members also discussed city support for July Fourth fireworks, upgrades to downtown parking, and land for merchant street reconstruction. Awareness efforts will feature teal and blue bows on Jefferson Avenue this month for Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness months.
Larry Micenheimer led the meeting in Mayor Schutzbach’s absence. Hank Stephens was also absent.
